Seeking Participants for the Medicine and Motherhood (MAM) Survey

The CAI is pleased to support the Medicine and Motherhood (MAM; learn more here) study being conducted by researchers from the University of Galway.

The MAM survey seeks to understand the experiences of women doctors working in Ireland around family planning, pregnancy and motherhood and its relationship to doctor wellbeing, work-life balance, and career satisfaction. This research is funded by the MPS Foundation. Ultimately, data from the survey and the wider research programme will support a multispecialty panel of physicians and subject matter experts to develop recommendations for optimal training and working environments for Irish doctors.

Research internationally suggests that pregnancy among doctors may be associated with a variety of challenges including delayed childbearing, increased use of assisted reproductive technology, higher rates of pregnancy complications and loss, discrimination against, and stigmatisation of, pregnancy, and slowed career progression.

There is an important need to understand the experiences of women doctors working in Ireland. It is crucial that women anesthesiologists, intensive care and pain medicine doctors are represented in this survey and that their insights support change and improvement.

If you are a woman doctor who is either
