Ad Eundem Fellowship

Are you a consultant anaesthesiologist practicing in an irish training hospital but are not a fellow of CAI?

Election of a Fellow is determined by the Credentials Committee of the College. A requirement for consideration is that the candidate holds a Fellowship of another Faculty / College and is on the Specialist Division of the Register for Anaesthesia / Anaesthesiology of the Medical Council of Ireland. If these requirements are met, a candidate can be proposed by a current fellow of the College ‘In Good Standing’.

A Fellow of the College, who remains ‘In Good Standing’ may:

  1. Vote on College matters
  2. Participate in College educational and social activities
  3. Be eligible for nomination as a College Tutor in a Training Hospital (subject to additional criteria, e.g. PCS compliant / in permanent post)
  4. Be eligible for nomination as an Examiner (subject to additional criteria, e.g. PCS compliant / in permanent post)
  5. Stand for election to the Council of the College
  1. A current CAI Fellow ‘In Good Standing’ may nominate a doctor who meets the criteria. The nomination can be in writing or by e-mail to the Chair of the Credentials Committee at credentials@coa.ie
  2. On receipt of a nomination the Credentials Administrator will contact the nominee requesting submission of their CV together with two references which must be from CAI Fellows ‘In Good Standing’
  3. On receipt of all documentation, the nomination will be presented to the next Credentials Committee meeting for consideration
  4. If the Credentials Committee approve the nomination, the Chair will make a recommendation to the next meeting of the Council of the College
  5. A two thirds majority of those present and voting at a meeting of the Council of the College is required
  6. If approved by Council, the nominee is then invited to the next Annual Conferring Ceremony, on payment of the relevant fee. An Annual Subscription Fee becomes payable on admission as a Fellow.
