Annual Congress 2020- Cancelled

Posted by ceo@coa.ie

We are aware that Anaesthesiologists and Intensive Care specialists will be at the forefront of the response to those most impacted by the COVID-19 virus.

The risks of spreading the infection amongst a large number of delegates at our annual scientific meeting and the subsequent lengthy quarantine period creates an unacceptable risk to the health system. Our intensive care units and hospital networks require our fellows and trainees to stay in hospitals to help manage the outbreak and care for our communities.

We have therefore taken the decision to cancel the CAI Congress 2020 which was due to take place in Dublin on May 21st -22nd  2020.

We believe the action is in the best interest of all who might have attended and the wider community.

We realise that the Congress plays a central part in the professional lives of our community. We will ensure that we provide additional educational and professional supports to our trainees, Fellows, affiliates and the wider community while social restrictions are in place.

We are very grateful to all those who contributed to Congress preparation, in particular those who had agreed to travel as part of our Visiting Faculty. We apologise for the disruption this cancellation will inevitably cause. Although we’re facing a period of uncertainty now, we’re determined to maintain a vibrant and worthwhile educational offering despite these difficult circumstances.

As your College, we were very much looking forward to seeing you in May and it is with sincere regret that we forego that. We wish you and your family well during these trying times.
