We now seek expressions of interest from suitable qualified individuals interested in the role of CAI Co-Director of Training

As the training of doctors becomes competency based, the role of the Co- Director of Training at the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland has evolved to reflect advances in healthcare education and training, including simulation in our SAT curriculum , the publication of the Health service executive strategic workforce plan for Anaesthesiology and changes in the regulatory domain from the Medical Council of Ireland.

The key responsibilities of the CAI Co- Director for Training is governance of the National Specialist Anaesthesiologist Training Programme . This includes but is not limited to leadership and operational responsibility  of the following:

  1. Recruitment and selection to the National SAT Training Programme
  2. Curriculum alignment – ensuring that learning outcomes are met
  3. Providing educational support and advice on remediation
  4. Assessment: To include all Formative , Summative assessments i.e. WBA, Progression reviews, Membership and Fellowship Assessments
  5. Confirmation of standards being met for specialist registration with the Medical council .

Reporting structure

The CAI Co- Director of Training will operate within the Training Department of the CAI, reporting to the CEO. The College encourages an open and collaborative approach to the achievement of shared goals.

Eligibility criteria

  • Substantial clinical experience in anaesthesiology and/or intensive care medicine and/or pain medicine.
  • Current or recent participation in the training of doctors as part of a recognised postgraduate training programme.
  • Experience in the leadership and implementation of postgraduate training courses for doctors.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills including conceptual and analytical ability.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for training and professional development of doctors.

Highly desirable

Postgraduate or undergraduate qualification in or relevant to medical/clinical education.

Leadership of a team in the setting of clinical education.

Experience in supporting the engagement of learners with Postgraduate Medical Training bodies.
