Consultation process – Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics -invitation to make submission
The Medical Council, through its Ethics Committee, is embarking on a review of its ‘Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners’ (8th edition 2016, as amended 2019) in preparation for its publication of the 9th edition.
This process will involve two consultation stages:
- Initial open consultation on the current Guide (8th edition)
- Targeted consultation on a draft of the 9th edition at a later stage
The Open Consultation went live on 23 June 2021. In relation to the open consultation process, doctors with an affiliation to the College are invited to participate & make submissions should you wish.

Submissions to this stage of the consultation may be made by,
- completing the survey online as per the link on the webpage above.
- downloading and completing the survey document (Word of pdf with text fields) as available via the web link and forwarding it to consultations@mcirl.ie
- submitting content and/ or supporting documents to consultations@mcirl.ie
Closing date for receipt of submissions is 4 August 2021
A second, targeted consultation will take place on a draft of the 9th edition of the Guide.
