About BJA and BJA Education (formerly CEACCP)
BJA and BJA Education are published by Oxford University Press and are available free of charge to Fellows in good standing of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland.
Founded in 1923, one year after the first anaesthetic journal was published by the International Anaesthesia Research Society; BJA remains the oldest and largest independent journal of anaesthesia.
Since April 2013, the BJA has been the official Journal of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland. Although there are links between BJA and the College, the Journal retains editorial independence. With an Impact Factor of 4.354, the BJA ranks an impressive third out of 28 journals in the Anesthesiology category.
BJA Education (formerly Continuing Education in Anaesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain) is a joint venture of the BJA and the RCoA. The main purpose of BJA Education is the publication of material to support the continuous medical education and professional development of specialists in anaesthesia, critical care medicine and pain management.
Online access to the BJA and BJA Education journals
Fellows receiving the BJA and BJA Education through their College subscription may access these online for free. For online access follow the steps below:
- Find your Oxford Journals subscriber number on the address label/letter from Oxford University Press. If you do not have this please email your name and society membership ID number to Finance@coa.ie or membership@oup.com
- Once you have your Oxford Journals subscriber number you will need to register with OUP for online access here and create an account (make a note of your OUP username and password); you can then read the full text of the journals online, and gain access to the journal archive, by visiting bja.oxfordjournals.org and bjaed.oxfordjournals.org.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with BJA Education/BJA and access to MCQs
BJA Education online offers an MCQ test for each article, for which a ‘pass’ generates a PDF certificate of completion which can be printed off or uploaded into your preferred revalidation management system.
In order to access the MCQs you will need to be registered for online access with OUP as per steps 1 and 2 above and you can then visit bjaed.oxfordjournals.org and click on CPD (Continuous Professional Development) to get started.
Reading BJA online also counts as an approved CPD personal activity and should be self-accredited on the basis of one CPD credit per hour.
