Before Surgery

Anaesthesiologists assess a patient’s health and medical history, discussing the most appropriate type of anaesthesia for their procedure. This involves careful evaluation of any medical conditions, medications, and allergies to ensure the safest possible care.

During Surgery

Anaesthesiologists administer anaesthesia and continuously monitor the patient’s vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. They adjust anaesthesia as needed to ensure the patient’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure.

After Surgery

Following surgery, anaesthesiologists oversee the patient’s recovery from anaesthesia, managing pain and ensuring a smooth transition to full consciousness. They work to minimise post-operative discomfort and complications.

In Intensive Care

Anaesthesiologists are responsible for managing critically ill patients in the ICU. They provide life-saving care, including advanced airway management, respiratory support, and the management of complex medical conditions that require continuous monitoring and intervention.

Pain Management

Anaesthesiologists are also experts in pain medicine, treating both acute and chronic pain. They provide a variety of therapies, from pain relief during childbirth to long-term pain management solutions for patients with conditions such as cancer, arthritis, or nerve pain.

Anaesthesiologists are essential members of the medical team, providing expert care in the operating room, intensive care unit, and pain management settings. Their deep understanding of medicine, physiology, and pharmacology enables them to deliver safe and effective care in some of the most critical and complex medical situations.

Our College is committed to educating the next generation of anaesthesiologists, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to provide exceptional care in anaesthesia, intensive care, and pain medicine.
