Welcome to The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland
The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI) is a postgraduate medical training body dedicated to the education and training of current and future doctors in Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine. Our mission is to equip healthcare professionals with the expertise needed to provide the highest standard of care for patients.
As the global demand for surgical intervention grows, significant disparities in access to safe surgical and anaesthetic care persist. At CAI, we are committed to addressing these challenges by ensuring that doctors in Ireland and across the globe are well-prepared to deliver the best possible care, both now and in the future. We value the trust patients place in our profession and strive to uphold the highest standards of healthcare excellence.
Our history of teaching and training dates back to 1946, when the Section of Anaesthesia of the Royal Academy of Medicine was established. This led to the creation of the Faculty of Anaesthetists in 1959 and, ultimately, the founding of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland in 1998 (which changed its name to the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland in 2018). Throughout our history, we have remained true to our mission of advancing education in anaesthesiology and related specialties.
At CAI, we are committed to enhancing the professionalism, skills, and competencies of doctors. Education and training in medicine are lifelong commitments. As medical science evolves, it is essential that our anaesthesiologists, intensive care, and pain medicine specialists stay at the forefront of the latest research and techniques to ensure optimal patient care.
Our community of Fellows, Members, and Trainees spans the globe, working across Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine. This international network of alumni provides invaluable knowledge, expertise, and dedication, allowing us to continually improve our educational programmes and enhance patient care standards.
We are committed to excellence at every level of our organisation. Our comprehensive programmes are designed to foster the development of skills, knowledge, and expertise throughout a doctor’s career, ensuring continuous professional growth and the highest levels of patient care.
Collaboration is key to advancing the field of anaesthesiology. We work closely with healthcare leaders both nationally and internationally, building strong partnerships that drive innovation and improve best practices for the benefit of patients worldwide.
At CAI, we are agents of change. We are dedicated to improving patient safety, advancing medical standards, and shaping the future of anaesthetic care.
