A-CRISIS represents, as the title suggests, an opportunity for anaesthesiologists registered for PCS with CAI to refresh their knowledge as well as practice their technical and non-technical skills in a safe simulated clinical environment.  The letter A in the title stands for Anaesthesiology, Assessment and Airway management but also for well-described principles of crisis management such as Attention, Awareness and Anticipation.  Delegates will have the opportunity to share expertise as well as reflect on their own practice during post-simulation peer-facilitated debrief. The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI) is delighted to introduce The Management of Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesiology (MEPA) simulation course for experienced practitioners. The highly regarded MEPA course uses an internationally validated curriculum and has already been rolled out in 60 centres across Australia, Canada, UK, Continental Europe and Asia.  Using evidence-based and peer-reviewed scenarios within high-fidelity simulation, the course provides a platform to hone clinicians’ skills according to current best practice in paediatric anaesthesiology emergencies. Congratulations to Ms. Deirdre Flynn – CAST Simulation nurse assistant – for presenting her work with the title ‘ Role of a simulation nurse: A personal reflection’ at the 10th Anniversary Meeting of the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH).

Congratulations to Dr. Caoimhe Duffy, past Simulation Fellow, Dr. Zeenat Nawoor Quinn, past Simulation Fellow and Prof. Crina Burlacu, Director of Simulation for their project Rapid Sequence Induction – An Anaesthesiology Bootcamp, the Initial Irish Experience, for being shortlisted for the Irish Healthcare Awards NCHD Project of the year 2019.  

The CAI in collaboration with Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance Service (MICAS) and Critical Care & Retrieval Services (CCRS)  invites SAT 1 trainees to participate in a non-mandatory Training Day. This Multi-modal Training Day will cover the following: Principles of safe transport for critically ill patient, Transport Physiology, Planning, delivering critical care in the transport environment, Simulation scenarios and Interactive discussions regarding special scenarios.  This course is not currently mandatory but it is highly desirable for SAT 1 trainees to attend. This year, CAST celebrated 10 years of continuous participation with simulation related scientific presentations at the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) annual meeting.  SESAM 2019 Annual Meeting was held at the Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow, Scotland on 12th-14th June.
